You're Gonna Die Someday

There is no point in waiting for tomorrow to do what needs to be done today. You might be dead tomorrow.

People seem to forget that every time we get in a car, we are one step away from death. People forget that every time you put something in your mouth, you could choke and die. People forget that people die all the time for no reason. And for a good reason. If we were all concerned with our imminent demise at all times, nothing would get done. But by the same token, not realizing that life can end at any time leads us to put off things we want today for tomorrow's pleasure. Tomorrow may never come. That is reality.

Sometimes, you've got to grab the bull by the balls. Take what you want. Don't let the promise of tomorrow keep you from talking to that pretty girl. Don't let it stop you from eating another piece of cake at your friends birthday party. Don't let it stop you from finally writing that poem you've been playing with in your head. Once you're gone, it's gone. The only way to see all the tomorrows you can is to leave parts of yourself behind for others to see. That can be art, it can be music, it can be stories, and it can be love.

I heard this song on Tangentially Speaking. I immediately fell in love with it. It conveys the unease I feel when I don't get something done in a day. It describes the feeling I get when someone tells me "not today." It makes me want to scream at people "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!" Regardless of what you believe, the fact remains that you all will die some day. And so will I. But in the meantime, live.
