Thirty Six Chambers of Wisdom
To the uninitiated, wisdom sounds like bullshit. To those who look at a flower and see it as just a plant, a rose is just another rose. To casual listeners, the Wu Tang Clan is just some hip-hop with a good beat. It's much, much more than that.
When I was a kid, I would watch hour after hour of kung fu movies with my mom. I remember the shitty dubs. I remember the hilarious wire work. It was the single biggest influence on my professional life, and I didn't know it.
I didn't know why I liked the Wu Tang Clan when I first heard C.R.E.A.M. As I've gotten older, I've begun to understand what the fuck it is that they were saying. Their songs are full of cautionary tales. They're full of wisdom to ponder. They don't offer any lessons, they don't offer any suggestions, they just are.
I don't like being told what to do, what to like, where to sleep, what to eat, or who to fuck. I don't think anyone does.
